premier academy select

The Premier Academy League is very excited to announce the launch of the Premier Academy Select program for 2020.

The Premier Academy Select is a group of “All Star” teams comprising of selected players who participate in the Premier Academy League. The teams will compete in International Tournaments, representing the Premier Academy League as well as their own Academies.

The teams for Edition #1 of the program will form for the JSSL Singapore 7’s tournament next April (more information below). Players will be selected by a Selection Committee based on their performance in the previous Premier Academy League season.

The Premier Academy Select program is an incredible opportunity for young players to take part in high-quality competition at an international level, as well as to travel and experience different countries and cultures within a professional team environment. This is another big step in the growth of the Premier Academy League as we, and the participating academies, endeavour to provide young footballers with opportunities to develop a life-long love of the sport.

The Tournament: Edition #1 of the Premier Academy Select program will see the teams take part in the JSSL Singapore 7’s in April 2020. The JSSL 7’s is the largest youth football tournament in Asia, featuring over 450 teams from 17 nations, including the professional youth teams of European clubs such as FC Barcelona, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool. Players will also have the chance to explore the beautiful city of Singapore.

Dates: The tournament runs from Friday 10th - Sunday 12th April 2020. However, we will be arriving in Singapore on Tuesday 7th April and leaving on Monday 13th April. This will include time for training sessions, warm-up matches and sightseeing. A detailed itinerary will be available soon.

Selection Process: All players that participate in the Premier Academy League Summer Season 2019 will have the opportunity to be selected within the Premier Academy Select teams for Edition #1. The Selection Committee will be made up of two former FIFA World Cup match analysts, overseen by the Premier Academy League. Academies will also support in the process by providing the Selection Committee with background information on the players. The selection will take place in Rounds 1-3 of the Summer Season 2019. Families will be contacted in mid-November 2019 by the Premier Academy League if their child has been selected and will be given time to accept or decline the offer. The selection criteria will not be disclosed, however, both the performance and attitude of the players will be taken into consideration.

Teams & Age Groups: Four teams will be selected for Edition #1 of the Premier Academy Select program in the following age groups (both boys and girls are eligible for selection):

  • Under 9 (players born in 2011 and 2012)

  • Under 11 (players born in 2009 and 2010)

  • Under 13 (players born in 2007 and 2008)

  • Under 15 (players born in 2005 and 2006)

Coaches: Each team will have a designated coach who will be selected from the current Academies within the Premier Academy League. Coaches will not necessarily be selected based on the performance of their team within the league. The selected coaches, overseen by the Selection Committee, will work together to establish a style of play and structure that all four teams will adopt for the tournament.

Travelling Staff: In addition to the four team coaches, there will be three operations staff who will travel with the group.

Training: A number of training sessions will be held in the lead up to the tour during January-April 2020. All selected players must be in attendance at these sessions.

Families Travelling: All U9 players must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the tour. U11, U13 and U15 players may travel without a parent/guardian and instead will be supervised by the travelling staff members.

Costs: The cost for the tour will be outlined in the invitation. There will be packages available for players and family members. All players must stay together at the team hotel - there will be no exceptions. There will be an option for flights to be included, or for families to arrange flights separately.

Uniform: All selected players will receive a Premier Academy Select uniform (Nike). This will include a home and away kit, training kit, polo shirt, rain jacket, cap and backpack. Kits will have the player’s name and number on the back, and the logo of their Academy on the sleeve.

Please Note: All information on this page is subject to change. The publishing of this content does not guarantee that the tour will take place. We are confident that the program will go ahead, however, it relies on the interest and acceptance of offers from the selected players and their families. Whilst the Selection Committee will have back-up/reserve players in case there are offers that are declined, the Selection Committee will not approve the team’s involvement in the tournament unless they believe the team will be competitive (i.e. we won’t be going just for the sake of going).
